Ways to Store Pot Lids and Organize Bakeware

Pot lids are easily one of the hardest kitchen items to control. They don’t nest, stack or stand on end. People tend to store pot lids with pots, but the Key is to treat them as their own category and organize them accordingly. Here are four ways to tame them:

  • Drawer- If possible, dedicate a deep drawer to lids. The storage drawer underneath a built-in oven is a great spot because its width makes what you’re looking for easy to find.
  • Basket- Put a basket on a cabinet shelf and pull it out to find the lid you need. There are also mountable sliding baskets for lids.
  • Rack- A pot lid rack can be mounted inside a cabinet door.
  • Improvise- Install a stainless towel rack on the wall behind the stove for your most-often-used lids.

Organizing Bakeware

You’ve probably noticed that pie pans, muffin tins and other bakeware don’t nest well and no one likes taking everything out of the cabinet to get to the cookies sheet at the bottom of the pile. The solution is to stack bakeware vertically, outfitting a cabinet with vertical partitions. Divide a cabinet with rows of small spring-tension curtain rods placed vertically in the front and back of the cabinet (with about four to six inches in between); bakeware can stand on edge and lean up against the rods.
