Caring for and Cleaning Your Houseplants

Houseplants are an affordable yet effective way of brightening up the home. They literally bring new life into any space.

Many houseplants don’t even require very much care. Simply remember to water them once in a while, allow them a little light, and they can flourish on their own without any more attention from you.

Cleaning Your Houseplants

Like any other surface in your home, however, houseplants can attract dust, especially if you have pets or a lot of people living in your home.

It’s not pleasant to think about but most dust comes from dried human skin or pet dander. So the more inhabitants you have in your home — human and otherwise — the more dust there is likely to be on your furniture, shelve, and, yes, houseplants.

Spritz and Clean

Fortunately, cleaning dust from your houseplants is simple. All you need is a spray bottle filled with tap water and a clean dry cloth.

Simply spritz your houseplant with a little of the water then gently dab it off with the cloth. This has the dual benefit of keeping your houseplant clean while at the same time giving it a little nourishment it can use to grow even more vibrant.

If you don’t have a green thumb and your houseplants are sagging or turning brown, it’s probably because you forgot to water them.

Give yourself a friendly reminder to care for your leafy friends by writing it down on your calendar, or putting it into your phone. Most plants don’t require watering any more frequently than once per week.

Caring for your plants can keep them healthy, vibrant, and alive. It doesn’t take much work on your part, but the rewards can be rewarding to both you and your home.
