At Carvalho’s Cleaning, we get a lot of inquiries from pet owners who wonder what to do with their beloved friends while their homes are being professionally cleaned. The answer is that it depends on the pet.
In many instances, cats are so familiar with humans that newcomers in their personal space don’t phase them at all. As long as they don’t mind us, we generally don’t mind them. So you may be able to just leave them out. Dogs are another story.
Keeping Distance
Dogs tend to be much more territorial than cats. So they usually will find the presence of strangers discomfiting. It’s a good idea to create barriers for the protection of both your pet and your cleaners.
If you have a fenced-in yard, a simple solution is to keep your dog outside during the time your professional cleaners are servicing your home. For homes without a yard, a room with a securely closed door will work as well as long as your pet is comfortable being on their own for a few hours.
Generally, we make arrangements with the homeowner to keep dogs and cleaners separated. So when it’s time to clean the room where the dog is being kept, the owner can simply put a leash on the dog and take it to another secured area of the home for that short period of time.
Nobody Home
If you want your home cleaned when you aren’t around but your pet is still present, it’s a good idea to let us know ahead of time so that we don’t walk in and surprise your littlest family member. Arrangements can often be made to keep a dog outside or in a basement or room you don’t need cleaned.
We work with homes with pets all the time so don’t worry, we can always find a solution that works for everybody.
