One of the best things about living in South Florida is the proximity to the ocean. Some of the finest sandy beaches in the world are only a short drive — or, in some cases, just a few steps — away.
We go to the beach to enjoy the fun and excitement of playing in the waves, basking in the warmth of the Florida sun, and watching our loved ones have the time of their lives.
But at the end of the day, when we pack up our things and return home, we often bring an unwanted souvenir with us: Sand.
Getting Rid of Sand in Rugs and Carpets
Because sand granules are so small and usually wet, they adhere to our sandals, our feet, clothes, and other items. So oftentimes a day at the beach is followed by a few weeks of dealing with annoying sand in carpets, rugs, and floors.
As one of the leading house cleaning Fort Lauderdale companies, at Carvalho’s Cleaners we’ve seen more than our share of sand. So we are experienced at getting rid of it quickly and efficiently.
Vacuums are usually the first line of defense against sand. But it usually takes a few times going over rugs or carpets before all the sand is removed.
House Cleaning Fort Lauderdale — Beat It!
If rugs or carpets are removable, the best way to get sand out is to hang it over a railing or clothesline and then beat it with a broom or stick. This causes the sand granules to fall out. Then use the vacuum to pick up the sand that has fallen on the ground underneath.
This same trick works effectively for car mats as well.
Keep in mind that the longer you allow sand to sit in your rugs or carpets, the more it will be spread throughout your house and the deeper it will get into the fibers. Your best bet is to vacuum as soon as possible after your family returns home from the beach.
